Making your first moves in Ludo

Start Ludo by looking at the playing area and its controls. Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Read the objective before making your first input. Choose a clear next step rather than rushing through the instructions.

Play with two or four people on the same device. Follow the house rules shown on the board; internet matchmaking is not available.

A focus for your next round

When a decision goes wrong, compare it with the common mistake described below. Start again only when you intend to leave the current round. Make the next step deliberately.

Your goal

Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Read that aim before choosing your first action. The example below illustrates a decision.

The steps to play

  1. Roll six to leave the yard.
  2. Move an eligible token by the die value; home requires an exact roll.
  3. Capture opponents on non-safe squares.
  4. Six, capture and finishing a token grant another roll; a third consecutive six forfeits that roll.

Input guidance

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Use one clear input at a time.

Try this example

A token two steps from home cannot use a three. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Keep the game’s format in mind.

One detail worth checking

Safe squares cannot capture; blockades are not part of this edition. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Read one step at a time and try it on the playing area. Match the instruction to the control you use.
