The Sokoban playbook

Open Sokoban, check the instructions and begin a round. Push every crate onto a target. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Identify the playing area and the controls you need. Use the example below to understand a decision.

Push two crates onto their targets in compact 7×7 rooms. The starting layouts can be solved; an unhelpful push may still trap a crate.

A focus for your next round

Locate the buttons and input area before beginning a long round. Use the on-screen labels to avoid an accidental restart. Refer to the controls when needed.

The purpose of your moves

Push every crate onto a target. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Review the board or playing area as it changes.

How to proceed

  1. Move through empty floor.
  2. Push one crate into empty space.
  3. Never pull or push two at once.
  4. Undo a deadlock and continue.

How to interact with the game

Arrow keys or direction buttons. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. Check any mode label before starting.

An example before you play

A crate in a non-target corner cannot be recovered by pulling. Apply the same reasoning to the position in your own round. Keep the game’s format in mind.

Keep this in mind

Consider the player’s access behind crates. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board.
